Suryauday Haveli on Shivala Ghats is a reflection of the spirit of the holy city of Banaras. The Haveli traces its history back to the early 20th century. It was built by the Royal Family of Nepal as a retreat for the aged. It’s now been painstakingly put together again to provide the best ghat experience in Banaras. Your stay begins with a 15 minute boat ride upstream along the famous ghats of Banaras to reach the Haveli. The Haveli is also connected by small alleys and streets leading to the Famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple (15 minutes walk)

The Amritara Suryauday Haveli is right on Gangaji. The rooms on the second floor facing the river are great. Our room was 206 and for the overnight stay was perfectly appoinnted. Do ask on checkin if you can get a Ganges view room. Suffice to say you only realistically need to sleep in Varanasi - well unless it is TOO hot. The waiting staff in the restaurant were attentive and there was more than adequate food selection - both Vegetarian and Western.

The food is the best. Vikas and Sandeep did a very good job. And location is superb as it's on ghat and morning trip on boat was amazing.

The vibe of this hotel is so amazing that you feel at home and at peace. The hotel staff was really helpful and helped us even for kasi mandir darsan tickets. They tried their best to make us feel at home. We went on boat rides in the evening arranged by the hotel itself for ganga aarti. The breakfast was indian and really tasty. Jyotikisan and vikas really helped us with the daily breakfast needs and made our stay even more special. The ganga ghat is really close to the hotel and it was amazing to see it from our room as we took the river view room. Overall an amazing stay

Location, location, location! The location of this hotel (Haveli) is wonderful. It directly overlooks the Ganges River, and I could sit in my air conditioned room and watch a variety of activities in the water and on the Ghat (boardwalk), or I could go to the outdoor relaxing rooftop and observe. The Haveli is about a 15 minute walk from the “center” of the Ganges action where a nightly ceremony occurs (Aarti). The ceremony is visually stunning, and draws a HUGE crowd every night (it’s loud). I loved that the hotel was a little distant this event. The staff was extremely friendly, and the room and bathroom very comfortable. A few things to keep in mind: 1. Try and get a room overlooking the Ganges. The Haveli has about 16 rooms. Half have river views, half don’t. 2. The Haveli will be very difficult to find on your own, and the narrow street/alley does not accommodate cars or tuk-tuks. Hire a guide assist you in finding it on foot - especially if you have luggage. 3. The Haveli has a lovely cafe (4 tables in the courtyard and 6 tables in an air conditioned dining room), and the menu is strictly vegetarian. There is no alcohol. They have a good espresso machine and the staff makes very good coffee drinks.
